As long as I get free health insurance its all good. You know those fights can leave ya in a bit of trouble. I mean what would my insurance rates be if I didn't get it for free. What with all the vanquishing of foes, dying multiple times, and all those times I've been blind, suffering a deep wound, felt weak, was bleeding, or even just dazed. It would be a nightmare to have to pay 10k a month for insurance.

Is "socialism" code for "suck"?

With no reliable way to get reasonable prices for weapon mods (no AH, no Weapon Mod trader) or greens (which are becoming stupidly rare anyway), and rune prices more or less in the crapper (though they've improved a bit, I remember picking up a Sup Vigor for 10K or so a couple months ago), and Hard Mode vanquishing gold rewards being somewhat mediocre IMO, GW is in a recession. The haves now have complete and total control of what little of the market is left, and the have-nots are screwed six ways from Sunday. Rich get richer, poor get poorer, the part of capitalism that really sucks.

Communism is the basis of every online rpg.

What is the point of logging in and not able to afford anything. So everything is attainable.

If anet did go capitalistic. 14 year old bill gates juniors would rule the game. Eventually some teenager would achieve such huge wealth the servers have to be reset to try again.

Yes, ANet is socialist - but not for any of the reasons the OP is concerned.

Property and the distribution of wealth are largely controlled by the community - a community of elites who are determined to keep enjoyment and entertainment their sole privilege. These elites often have wealth going back before the game actually started - as beta testers. Even when that is not the case they obtained much of their game wealth before the plethora of nerfs supposedly (and miraculaously always ineffectively) aimed at controlling it and preventing botting.

Botting does undermine the community value by creating inflation. Botting and sweat-shop labor influx large amounts of gold to those persons who purchase it. Because these violators can buy anything they wish at tremendously high prices, normal and regular players are brushed aside as having insufficient funds. Decent looking armor, off-hands, weapons, insignia, and runes all become the playtoys of only the elite players and those who e-bay for their gold. Normal players are disregarded and their interest ignored.

The only way to improve this is to open up drops so that normal players can get what they find enjoyable. Restriction only and has only increased the pressure for normal players to purchase on-line/e-bay gold. The only reason to maintain the restrictions is to ensure the capitalism in the real world of real money going to sweat-shops and botters. If people can get what they are interested in without botting/buying gold then those industries will get out of our game. Every nerf against PvE has had the exact opposite effect; they hae all increased botting and e-bay gold instead of decreasing it.

Until ANet opens the drops we can only assume they are intentionally supporting the Sweat-shops and intentionally attempting to drive their player base into purchasing on-line/e-bay gold. There is absolutely no excuse for a 266+ k set of armor in a non-elite area; but we have one. There is no reason for a 200 plus gold sink in outfitting heroes; but we have one.

It is not about effort, because I put in a great deal of it getting no where because of the deplorable access to wealth in game. There is no reason why a player should have to choose between armor and skills - but we do. The ANet assumption that we are only here to PvP has them setting up double standards. Every PvP person can get anything they want, win or lose, through PvP play. PvE not only has to find and open the skill - but then pay for it as well. That too is another huge gold sink pressuring players to purchase on-line/e-bay gold.

Then we have GWEN - which now eliminates the creativity of persons who put together armor sets in a manner that appealed to them. Because of the HoM only full sets of elite armor have any value, only weapons from GWEN have any value, etc. All to create more unaffordable gold sinks. And any one who can afford all of it did not ever get their gold honestly. And if they claim to have, add one more dishonesty to their list of lies.

are you guys seriously debating the politics and economic ramifications of those politics for a game? holy crap people remember one thing you could be a millionaire but as soon as you hit that little "X" on the top right hand corner or the F12 key on the keyboard its all gone....all of it.

And with the exception of a handful of people who actually play this game we all go back the rat race that is real life.

Can I just point out that this is an online game? Not a nation?

Seriously, quit referring to it as the economy. Those of you who refer to it as that probably have no clue what any real economic system is like, or entails. Game economies as you call them are far more simple than things in the real world. Give me a break. This is a game.

Game trade systems have one rule, and one rule only. Anything that drops and will not stop dropping will always go down in price, no matter what. Everything that drops or is considered loot is comparative to a candle in the sun. Sure, it may be cool the first few days, but after a week or so, there's barely nothing left.

The above is the only rule in any multiplayer game. There's nothing to debate on this, except the many things that cause it to happen, and what speeds it up. There's absolutely no point in discussing it to this length.

Take an economics class, then come back.
